Why is it spelled...?

where the letter r is to be silent give me some words ?
I'm not aware of any words with silent <r> other than words in those dialects where [r] after a vowel is lost, so that, for instance, car sounds like "cah." That kind of silent <r> occurs in a few American dialects, mainly in the Northeast, and more generally in Britain.
