Change the first vowel in boat to make a new word
If by first vowel you mean first vowel letter, you can change the <o> to <e> and get beat. If by first vowel you mean vowel sound, you can change the <oa> to <a>, <e>, <i> <o>, <u> <ea> <ee>, <ai> to get bat, bet, bit, bot, but, beat, beet, or bait. Still dealing with vowel sounds, you can change the long <o> sound to get bate, bete, bite, byte, but that involves you with silent final <e>'s, which is probably more changing than you want to mess with.
